Baking, cooking, and blogging are my absolute favorite hobbies. I love getting to share my recipes with friends and family. It just brings me so much joy!
There is also a new part of me that likes to thrift shop and repurpose old things! In the past year, I took on two large DIY projects with the help of my parents. I am so happy with how they turned out! I wanted to share the finished projects in a blog post.

Upon entering medical school I moved into a townhome with my sister and sweet roommate Kara. I was so excited to finally decorate a place of my own without using command hooks and cream wall colors. I wanted the living room to be the perfect place to lounge with friends, watch some Mountaineer football, and crash when exhausted. My vision was a subtle theme of "blue and gold" with some "farmhouse" vibes.
Project 1: My parents had an old china closet sitting in their basement for years. It belonged to my great grandparents and was passed on to my mom after their passing. When my parents did away with their formal dining room, the china closet became more like a storage closet. I had the idea to repurpose it as a TV stand for our townhome. My family was on-board to give it a new look and put it back in regular use.
With the help of my parents, we ripped out the shelves and glass doors. I spent days sanding the dark wood, priming, sanding again, and painting over and over with white paint. I found ceramic nobs at Homegoods with white and blue details. It was my mom's idea to complement the blue nobs by painting the back of the closet blue. My mom actually painted most of the pieces! She did such a good job. My dad used his engineering skills to place a new shelf with LED lights. He went above and beyond!
Our china closet perfectly fits a flat-screen TV, our favorite cookbooks, and WVU memorabilia we have collected over the years. The cabinets are filled with craft supplies and board games. It is the centerpiece of our living room. I love that my parents and I made it together. We carried an old piece of family furniture into a new generation with a new look and purpose, of course!

Project 2: Going along with the farmhouse theme, I wanted some wall art behind the navy blue sectional. A few weeks ago, the next-door neighbors replaced their outdoor deck. Before throwing all of their weathered boards away, they allowed me to sift through them and take any I would like. So I did! My dad cut each of them into 24-inch pieces and connected them with nails and an old erector kit. I painted the boards white and sanded them down afterward to look distressed.
The sign reads "HOME" with the state of West Virginia existing as the "O". I thought about drawing the state or using string art. However, my mom suggested that we use our WV state cutting board instead. It fit the spot perfectly! Mom knows best! I also made an extra panel to switch out the letter "O" to a wreath or a pumpkin, depending on the season. The other 18-inch varsity-style letters were bought from the Hobby Lobby. I painted them navy and nailed them to the white boards.

I love our living room! Everything in it is from a thrift store or passed down from family members — from the side tables and lamps to the coat rack and bar stools. The only thing we purchased was the navy blue sectional. I wanted a couch big enough to fit lots of friends comfortably. We got it from Ashley Homestore in Morgantown. It was a good deal and the perfect color. Plus, it really is the comfiest thing!
I love my cute, COZY townhome. I spend so much time here! It has become quite the perfect place for bible study, movie nights, and dinner parties. My home would not be as cozy without so much help from my parents.
Mom and Dad, thanks so much for helping me with both projects! We make a great team. I am so blessed to be your daughter. Thanks for supporting me, always! I love you both so much! ❤️
